We continued the organisation’s long-term European mobility plan established under its Erasmus+ accreditation. The project built on more than a decade of international cooperation and used mobility as a core youth work method to widen opportunities for young people from Ballyfermot and Cherry Orchard areas that experience social and economic disadvantage. During the reporting period (June 2024 – August 2025) Ballyfermot Youth Service (BYS) delivered ten high-quality mobilities: six youth exchanges, two youth-worker trainings, and two advanced-planning visits. Activities took place in Ireland, Poland, Spain & Italy with 264 participants in total. Each activity was linked to at least one of the organisation’s accredited strategic objectives and to the Erasmus+ Youth Goals of Inclusive Societies, Mental Health and Wellbeing, equality of all genders, Space and participation for all and Sustainable Green Europe. The overarching purpose of the project was to embed European cooperation into daily youth-work practice, ensuring that every young person—especially those with fewer opportunities—could access non-formal learning experiences abroad. The work supported BYS’s mission to connect, engage, and empower young people, combining local relevance with European citizenship. The six long-term strategic objectives guiding all activities were: 1. Erasmus for All – Digital Inclusion: bridging the digital divide and promoting responsible, creative use of technology. 2. Sharing the Knowledge: upskilling youth workers and volunteers in inclusion, creativity, and intercultural dialogue. 3. All Equal, All Different: strengthening equality, diversity, and LGBTQI awareness through rights-based education. 4. BMX & Skateboarding into Europe: promoting health, teamwork, and community leadership through sport and street culture. 5. Outdoor Education for Engagement: using adventure, environmental learning, and reflection to build resilience and wellbeing. 6. Environmental and Sustainable Practice: integrating the “Leave No Trace” approach and green habits into all mobilities. Through these priorities BYS sought to engage with & raise young people’s confidence, employability, and intercultural understanding while building staff capacity in digital and inclusive youth work. The project also aimed to strengthen European networks and build on partnerships across the EU while fostering an inclusive and diverse space for young people and staff. Each partner country contributed complementary expertise: Italy, Poland and Spain in creative and outdoor learning, Finland in digital youth work, Poland/Italy in environmental education, Italy in inclusion/migrant learning and Malta/Lithuania/Slovakia in intercultural and arts-based engagement. The cooperation deepened trust among partners and ensured the consistent application of the Erasmus+ Quality Standards. In summary, the 2024-25 accreditation cycle consolidated Ballyfermot Youth Service’s passion for innovative youth work, engagement techniques & experiential youth work. The project provided transformative opportunities for young people and youth workers alike, generating lasting impact on individual wellbeing, professional competence, and community participation while strengthening the organisation’s capacity to deliver European projects sustainably into the future.
