Objectives

Young people of today have access to many unique opportunities, but they also face numerous challenges that deeply affect their lives. Many of them are negatively impacted by various factors, and our daily experiences with them revealed significant changes in their behaviour. Some of them became more introverted, especially after the pandemic. They appeared shy, struggled to express themselves, and grew more antisocial despite their frequent use of electronic communication devices. We were aware that these challenges hindered their ability to connect with others, leading to poor communication and reduced participation. The struggles of these young people did not go unnoticed and we believe that theatre was one of the best tools to help them socialize, express themselves, and become active citizens. We tried to introduce them to different types of theatre and role-playing methods and we also tried to support them to find out more about the European Youth Strategy, European values, the European Union and especially Erasmus + opportunities for young people. The foundation of our project was the belief that everyone had the capacity to act in the "theatre" of their own lives, as both actors and spectators—"spect-actors." Through theatre, young people learned to express themselves more confidently, became more extroverted, and developed teamwork skills. These experiences will encourage their active participation in alternative forms of engagement, such as youth activism, community volunteering, online advocacy, and social movements like climate activism in the near future. Mutual support among young people played a crucial role in overcoming their challenges. Alongside formal education, non-formal learning and especially theatre-role play methods deepened their knowledge of the European Union and fostered a stronger sense of belonging. We believed that without a comprehensive approach to the European Youth Strategy, an essential piece would always be missing, preventing meaningful contributions to its goals. Our project was designed not only for young people but also with their active involvement. Non-formal educational methods, particularly role-playing and theatre, were used to achieve several specific objectives: - Bringing together young people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds to create spaces for dialogue and mutual understanding. - Fostering shared values among young people to enhance their sense of belonging to Europe. - Demonstrating the positive impact of role-playing and theatre on youth development and societal well-being. - Developing critical thinking about the challenges young people encountered in their personal and social lives. - Promoting cultural diversity at local, regional, and international levels by encouraging intercultural dialogue and learning. - Creating practical tools and methods that young people could use in their communities to address social issues. - Increasing tolerance and acceptance among young people by breaking down prejudices and stereotypes. - Contributing to the development of skills, attitudes, and competencies that empowered young people to become active citizens. - Organizing events aligned with the European Youth Strategy goals to engage young people in meaningful and impactful activities. - Enhancing young people’s understanding of European values and fostering their sense of European identity and belonging. - Another important goal of the project was to increase tolerance and acceptance among young people. It contributed to the development of their skills and attitudes while organizing events aligned with the European Youth Strategy goals. By encouraging intercultural dialogue and learning, we enhanced their sense of European identity and belonging. However, Fundamental European values were central to the project’s activities, breaking down prejudices and stereotypes. After gaining a deeper understanding of the Strategy and Erasmus + opportunities, we believe that the participants will create more concrete and effective projects within the Erasmus+ Programme. These projects will have a lasting impact on their communities and Europe as a whole.
