After conducting a research and infrastructure study on the methods and techniques used in our respective schools, we identified some adequacies and deficiencies of methods and techniques applied in the schools. After analysing all the data that we received from the study, we felt it would be beneficial to see how other European countries teach certain areas of Special Education. By doing this, each participating country would gain valuable insight as to how things are done in other countries.
Just like in the education of all children, the aim in the education of children with additional needs is for them to lead independent lives in the future. We want them to become self-sufficient and integrate into society without being dependent on others. Achieving this goal largely depends on identifying the educational needs considering the individual differences of the individual and providing appropriate educational environments according to their needs. The competence of the teacher who plans and implements these services is crucial. It is the teacher's duty to have a good understanding of the emotional, cognitive and social development characteristics of children with additional needs and to have the knowledge and skills related to methods and techniques, to determine the performance levels of children, to set appropriate and realistic goals and to teach desired behaviours and reduce unwanted behaviours. With all these methods and techniques in place, our teachers will play an active role in the education of our students, contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning thus ensuring that children benefit from their compulsory constitutional right to education at the highest level.
