Objectives

The project aimed to strengthen green, digital and intergenerational competences among adults through structured cooperation between Iceland, Poland and Italy. We intended to: • increase practical skills in waste reduction, reuse and creative recycling among at least 48 adult participants in each country; • create safe and inclusive environments for intergenerational learning, where seniors shared life-based ecological knowledge and young adults supported digital documentation; • improve digital confidence of older participants through co-creation of a multilingual virtual gallery (e-book); • promote intercultural understanding and European values through international exchange; • strengthen the organisational capacity of partner NGOs in planning and managing international adult education projects. Ultimately, we aimed to contribute to sustainability, inclusion and active European citizenship at local and transnational level.

Background

We applied for this project in response to three interconnected needs identified in our communities and organisations. Firstly, we observed limited intergenerational dialogue. Seniors possess valuable practical knowledge on reuse and waste reduction, rooted in life experience and resource-conscious lifestyles, yet this knowledge is rarely transferred to younger generations. At the same time, many older adults face digital exclusion. Secondly, despite growing awareness of sustainability, practical green skills related to creative recycling and circular economy are insufficiently developed at community level. Thirdly, as small NGOs, we identified the need to strengthen our capacity for structured international cooperation in adult education. The project addresses these needs by creating inclusive spaces for intergenerational exchange, promoting practical green competences, enhancing digital skills of seniors, and reinforcing organisational capacity through European collaboration.
