Objectives

One of the main problems in Italy is the strong gap between the northern and southern parts of the country, activities are planned aimed at reducing the territorial gaps between the north and south of Italy by aiming to increase opportunities for the future of young people living in different areas of the country. To date there are still significant and persistent gaps and the South is the largest backward territory in the euro area, it has suffered significantly from the crises of previous years and the impact of the pandemic. Among the data that most highlight this great difference are also those of the GDP per capita between the regions of the North and those of the South, an indicator that gives a measure of the standard of living recorded in the various areas of the country. Unfortunately, the consequences of this enormous gap between the north and south of Italy are paid above all by young people both in terms of education; in fact, only one in three citizens between 25 and 49 has at most a middle school diploma, and in terms of youth employment with almost 30 percentage points less than in the areas of northern Italy. All this leads to an inevitable consequence: "emigration from the South" with truly worrying rates especially in Calabria, Basilicata and Sicily. This is a huge problem for Southern Italy that now involves all factors from the economic to the social and cultural but, our South is also rich in a vibrant culture and deep-rooted traditions that reflect its history and the diversity of local communities, we believe that using these traditions can be a solution and an important stimulus capable of involving many young people. With the creation of "Let's compare our traditions" we have encouraged the creativity and active participation of young people by enhancing and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of both Southern Italy and the two partner nations Serbia and Bulgaria, also rich in traditions and culture, we have brought these traditions to the attention of the new generations by making them relive them firsthand so that today they can disseminate them to ensure their durability over time. The objectives that we have managed to achieve have been many, managing to be part of an educational program aimed at preserving and spreading local culture and history; we have: created support programs for local communities; promoted the active participation and collaboration of young people; encouraged the creation of new associations or small cooperatives that can spread their traditions and foster new business ideas; promoted the professional training of young people by enhancing the natural, historical and cultural beauties of our area in order to attract tourists and promote the local economy, the aim was to create a sort of "ecotourism" that, thanks to these new cultural initiatives, can contribute both to preserving traditions and to generating job opportunities. The main objective of the project was to contribute to the cultural awakening of the territory, through the enhancement of the fundamental elements of our culture and our traditions, which has increased in young people the sense of active belonging to our community, avoiding the "almost obvious" emigration. The association “Sicilia nu cori” has always been active in contributing concretely to the social and youth issues of our territory, the realization for the first time of this project with the Erasmus + program has given us the opportunity to host young people of other nationalities in our country, being able to transfer them Sicilian beauties, traditions and culture has been of fundamental importance for our community, it has stimulated the kids to rediscover their roots and identity by strengthening the bond with their land, it has brought out in them the sense of the group and the value of hospitality, and they have been able to improve the use and learning of the English language. But the most important thing was that of having been able to demonstrate to the youngest that Europe is increasingly present and close, we have given them the opportunity or the hope to stay and believe in their own territory with its traditions and its culture.
