Objectives

The aim of the project was to address an increasingly relevant issue: the lack of awareness of the importance of product labels and their impact on the environment. The youth exchange, in fact, was designed to inform and train participants on how to correctly read packaging labels, while promoting knowledge related to eco-friendly packaging practices and more responsible waste management. A problem that is particularly evident among young people, who often make purchases driven by emotions or advertising influences, neglecting fundamental information provided on packaging. The project, therefore, aimed to create an intercultural learning environment in which young people from Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Romania, Lithuania and Turkey could compare themselves, learning together the meaning of the main symbols on labels, such as the green dot, the three arrows, the Tidyman, the codes of materials (PET, HDPE, PVC, LDPE, PP, PS), and those relating to the recycling of glass, aluminum, SIGRE and the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Through this experience, participants gained greater awareness of the environmental impact of packaging, learning the importance of making more sustainable purchasing choices and managing waste correctly. The aim was to encourage responsible behavior to reduce the use of plastic, both at a personal and community level. Furthermore, thanks to the Youthpass program, young people also developed transversal skills such as problem solving, digital skills, international collaboration, lifelong learning, effective communication and the ability to search for information, through non-formal learning methods. The project culminated with the social campaign "Sustainable Labels for a Greener Future", which was implemented in all the countries involved. This initiative aimed to raise awareness of the production processes of packaging, promote correct separate waste collection and reduce the consumption of products with polluting plastic packaging. Ultimately, this project not only educated young people on environmental issues, but also generated a lasting positive impact in their communities, promoting a more sustainable lifestyle for the future.
