The main aim of the youth exchange was to bring together 25 young people from 5 different countries and to give opportunity for mutual understanding and building strong EU identity through learning different languages. The EU's historical accomplishment of creating and sustaining inclusive institutions transformed it into a haven of security and prosperity like never before in human history. However, recent challenges have cast doubt on the stability of the European Union project. For example, there are significant economic disparities among EU member states. Southern European countries, in particular, are facing economic challenges, high levels of unemployment, and debt issues. Also, the EU struggled to find a unified approach to the migration and refugee crisis. Member states have differing views on how to handle the influx of refugees, leading to tensions and disagreements. Some EU member states faced criticism for perceived violations of the rule of law and democratic principles. This raised questions about the enforcement of common values within the EU. Presently, there is a noticeable increase in EU skepticism and the emergence of populism in Europe. For the first time since the conclusion of World War II, crucial decisions regarding European cooperation appear to be influenced by the ascent of various populist parties, predominantly on the far-right political spectrum, casting a gloomy shadow over the health and future of collaborative institutions like the European Union. Fundamentally, the spread of populism poses a threat to the EU's multiculturalism. Populism, rooted in exclusivity, promotes an illiberal and anti-pluralist vision of democracy, thereby posing a risk of an authoritarian shift. Preventing this requires concerted efforts to establish a robust EU identity. In the current scenario, collaboration and unity are imperative as never before. This project aims to contribute to this goal by bringing together young individuals from societies with heightened EU skepticism, providing them a platform for mutual understanding and transcending prejudices to instill faith in EU institutions. Essentially, culture plays a pivotal role in shaping identity. By facilitating opportunities for young people to engage in cultural activities and collaborative endeavors across groups, allowing them to explore diverse cultures and traditions, will create a space for the development of a sense of belonging, acceptance, and pride in their identity. The core idea is that understanding different cultures fosters a more profound European connection, emphasizing that a stable and robust EU identity yields positive outcomes such as overall well-being, civic engagement, and a commitment to social justice. What better context for understanding someone's culture than learning someone's language! Languages and culture are deeply interconnected, and they play a crucial role in shaping the identity and interactions of communities and individuals. We can mention that language is the primary medium through which individuals and communities express their thoughts, ideas, values, and traditions. It serves as a tool for communication and connection. Language is often a fundamental aspect of cultural identity. It reflects shared histories, experiences, and social structures. The use of a particular language can signal belonging to a specific cultural group. Many societies from the EU are multilingual. This linguistic diversity often reflects cultural diversity, which brings distinct linguistic norms related to politeness, formality, and respect. Understanding these norms is crucial for effective communication in diverse cultural settings. In essence, the project sought to address several key needs: The need for enhanced mutual understanding and the construction of a robust EU identity, The need to explore and appreciate diverse cultures and traditions in depth, The need to “build bridges” between nations, The need to adopt non-formal learning methods to empower young people. The objectives of the project were: - To foster mutual understanding and cooperation between young people from different cultures - To stimulate young people's spirit of initiative, creativity and active participation in society. - To support the cultural diversity in different local and national realities; - To develop a sense of belonging to the common European idea and EU citizenship. - to foster future cooperation amongst organizations - to raise awareness about Erasmus+ program.
