The “Green Fraud” project was conceived to address the growing problem of greenwashing—the practice of companies making misleading environmental claims to appear more sustainable than they truly are. Our main objective was to raise awareness among young people about this phenomenon, develop their critical thinking skills, and empower them to make informed, responsible choices as consumers and future change-makers. The project took place in Cava de’ Tirreni, Italy, a location symbolizing both natural beauty and cultural heritage, perfectly reflecting our commitment to sustainability. By combining environmental education with youth empowerment, Green Fraud aimed to create a generation of environmentally conscious young citizens who can recognize, question, and act against deceptive marketing practices. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project sought to: Enhance awareness and comprehension of greenwashing and its environmental consequences. Develop critical thinking and analytical skills to identify misleading corporate claims. Promote eco-friendly and ethical lifestyles, encouraging sustainable consumption habits. Inspire green innovation, supporting youth in developing creative, community-based solutions. Foster European identity and intercultural learning, promoting cooperation and solidarity among participants from Italy, Portugal, France, Romania, and Türkiye. Strengthen advocacy and leadership skills, empowering participants to educate others and initiate follow-up actions in their local communities. Through interactive workshops, discussions, cultural exchange, and non-formal learning activities, Green Fraud contributed to the Erasmus+ priorities of sustainability, inclusion, and active citizenship. The ultimate goal was to ensure that participants not only gained knowledge about environmental issues but also became motivated advocates for genuine sustainability, creating long-lasting positive impacts in their communities and across Europe.
