Objectives

Our project aimed to provide an active, concrete, and personal response to one of the most urgent global challenges: climate change. The main objective was to raise awareness among young people about the environmental impact of current food production systems and individual consumption choices, while promoting more sustainable lifestyles. Through an educational approach based on direct experience and community learning, we encouraged participants to critically analyse the environmental crisis, starting from concrete aspects of everyday life such as food and mobility. We aimed to guide them in identifying the root causes of ecological crises and in imagining both individual and collective actions to contribute to climate change mitigation and to a broader ecological and social transition. The project took place in the Parco Agricolo Sud Milano, an area where conventional farming coexists with organic and regenerative agricultural practices. This context enabled us to connect young people with farmers who are responding to climate change by combining traditional knowledge with sustainable practices. Activities included field visits, farmer interviews, and hands-on workshops, strengthening participants’ environmental competencies and sense of active citizenship. In particular, the project successfully achieved the following objectives: - Increasing awareness of the environmental impact of intensive food production practices and eating habits, in line with the 2030 Agenda goals - Promoting critical and systemic thinking through research-based activities - Developing practical knowledge and skills in sustainable agriculture and fostering international networking for the exchange of good practices - Strengthening self-awareness, personal efficacy, and self-esteem - Inspiring individual and collective actions to rethink the relationship between urban and rural areas, including through sustainable mobility - Raising awareness among peers and adults by connecting local socio-environmental issues with global environmental challenges through public events In summary, the project aimed to support young people in becoming conscious changemakers working toward a more sustainable future.
