Objectives

The "Taste for Life" project aimed to address the significant issue of eating disorders among young people—an area often lacking adequate understanding and support. The project’s goals were shaped from a youth work perspective, with a focus on empowering socio-cultural youth workers and promoting mental well-being among young people. Here are the main objectives: Preventing Eating Disorders: To equip socio-cultural youth workers with the necessary skills to identify and respond to early signs of eating disorders, fostering a comprehensive understanding of their causes and contributing factors. Fostering a Positive Connection with the Body: To employ mindfulness and embodiment approaches to help young people develop a positive relationship with their bodies, encouraging acceptance, compassion, and critical thinking as a way to counter societal pressures. Improving Mental Health: To provide youth workers with tools to promote mental health, enabling young people to develop healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with stress and anxiety—especially in light of recent social changes that affect mental well-being. Using Complementary Approaches: To integrate mindfulness and embodiment practices as effective methodologies for addressing eating disorders, drawing on research and expertise from professionals in the field. Addressing the Impact of Social Media: To acknowledge and respond to the influence of social media on body dissatisfaction by fostering critical thinking and promoting filtering strategies among young people. Strengthening Healthy Human Values: To emphasize the importance of nurturing healthy values in order to mitigate harmful attitudes linked to body comparison and disordered eating, and to promote a positive connection between individuals, their bodies, and their environments. Through these objectives, the project aimed to make a meaningful impact on young people's mental health, body image, and self-esteem, while equipping socio-cultural youth workers with advanced knowledge and methodologies to effectively recognize and address these challenges.
