Objectives

The idea of carrying out this project was born from the growing awareness of the need to train youth workers who encourage the involvement of local communities and stimulate the active participation of young people in the processes of change in society. The idea of our project is to address current challenges through community animation, food and technology (in particular, through the tool of participatory video podcasts), promoting ethics, sustainability, social inclusion, active participation, “artivism” and collective growth. The needs that, together with our partners, we have identified in our communities are multiple: a growing awareness of making healthier and more sustainable food choices, both for individual well-being and for the environment; the importance of using new technologies to increase active participation in the social dimension; community animation as a means of creating and strengthening networks between individuals in the community. The pandemic has accelerated this awareness, pushing us to look for solutions for a more balanced and sustainable diet, making greater use of new technologies and at the same time highlighting the importance of creating human networks within the community. To address these needs we have developed an approach based on two complementary methodological processes. The first process involves theoretical and practical workshops. These workshops will involve all three sectors of intervention. 1) As regards food, theoretical knowledge on ethical and sustainable food choices will be transmitted and practical skills will be provided, such as the creation of healthy menus, the involvement of the community and the environment with a focus on local products and the construction of kitchen tools using materials recovered or available in the area. 2) Here the focus will be on the creation of a video podcast on new technologies. Practical and theoretical knowledge will be transmitted by equipping participants with the necessary tools to record and produce audiovisual material, the knowledge of useful programs for editing and communication tools that can promote greater dissemination of the message. 3) Finally, through community animation techniques, we will train participants by providing useful tools to strengthen relational networks, creating places of participation where we can feel free to express ourselves and question ourselves, and encouraging the use of tools such as living library or world café in local community contexts. In this way, we aim to transmit innovative skills to respond to the new needs of our communities. The second process aims to promote innovation in youth work, giving participants the necessary time to experiment with the techniques addressed during the workshops and thus organize a moment open to the community in which they will generate a safe place for discussion and exchange, the creation of a shared banquet and the production of the podcast in which everyone can feel free to participate and take part. The project aligns perfectly with the path undertaken by Immaginaria which since its foundation has focused on the diffusion of innovative practices to encourage the growth and development of small communities: in our international projects we have always taken advantage of food and the kitchen environment as a means to strengthen the inclusion of participants, for several years it has been experimenting with web radio practices to stimulate the active participation of young people in different social contexts. For what stated above, the project Foodcast aims to achieve the following objectives: 1) Community Development Through food and technology, we aim to promote the growth of communities that are capable of promoting the development of the places where partner organizations operate. We wish to initiate virtuous processes that lead to the creation of more open and inclusive communities, particularly in areas where conflicts and divisions are prevalent. 2) Quality and Innovation in Youthwork Our commitment to transferring knowledge, tools, food methods, technological knowledge and community animation aims to develop key competences in youthworkers, particularly those with fewer opportunities. This process tends to promote the empowerment of youthworkers and strengthen their professional skills, so as to contribute to the capacity-building of their organizations. 3) Environment and climate change The project aims to promote a renewed awareness on sustainability, thanks to workshops on recycling, upcycling and 0-km
