The project Palermo Unites: Empowering Digital Awareness Together aims to strengthen young people’s awareness of both the risks and the opportunities of the digital world, with a specific focus on online safety, digital rights, and the prevention of digital violence. Through participatory and non-formal methods, the project creates safe and inclusive spaces where young people reflect, debate, and co-develop strategies for responsible and empowering use of technology. More specifically, the project pursues the following objectives: Raise awareness among young people about risks, opportunities, and rights in the digital environment, including issues such as sexting, revenge porn, sextortion, cyberbullying, and misinformation. Strengthen social, emotional, and critical competences needed to manage online and offline relationships in a safe, respectful, and inclusive way. Develop practical digital skills such as social media use, content creation, video editing, and effective online communication, fostering digital literacy and the ability to evaluate information critically. Enhance young people’s self-efficacy by offering opportunities to speak in public, co-facilitate activities, and take responsibility in collective events. Promote peer-to-peer learning and support, empowering participants to share knowledge and experiences and to become resources for their peers. Stimulate youth participation and active citizenship, by encouraging young people to engage not only in their communities but also in dialogue with schools, institutions, and stakeholders. Counteract discrimination, exclusion, and violence—including gender-based and intersectional forms of violence—by fostering a culture of respect, equality, and solidarity.
