The project aims to bring together young people from diverse backgrounds and with fewer opportunities in Palermo, with the intention of offering them the opportunity to explore Europe through travel experiences that highlight inclusion as a fundamental value and principle of the European Union. The selected group includes economically and culturally disadvantaged young people, migrants and people with intellectual disabilities, reflecting a wide range of challenges and perspectives. The travel experiences, carefully chosen by the young people themselves, are divided into two distinct routes, both aimed at exploring and experimenting with inclusive practices. The first route includes visits to various youth centres in Europe, where daily activities dedicated to inclusion take place, allowing young people to confront realities similar to their own and to learn new ways of social integration. The second route uses the unique opportunity offered by the Summer Olympics to show the importance of inclusion in the world of sport, as an element that unites different cultures and peoples. During the planning and organisation of the trips, the young people played a central role, supported by the association and accompanying persons, who helped them anticipate and manage possible challenges and difficulties. This process contributed to the development of their organisational skills and prepared them to handle new and unforeseen situations. The experience will force participants to step out of their comfort zone, stimulating them to develop adaptive skills in a safe and supported environment. Those taking part in the journey through the youth centres will have the opportunity to interact with like-minded realities, fostering a greater understanding of the similarities between different European peoples. Similarly, the young people who will follow the Olympics-related route will have the chance to witness at first hand one of the most significant global sporting events, where the diversity of cultures and nationalities come together, offering a living lesson in multiculturalism. Despite the differences between the two itineraries, both converge towards the ultimate goal of enhancing and promoting the importance of inclusion, beyond any barrier or prejudice. This project will not only enrich the young participants personally and culturally, but will also help spread a message of unity and acceptance among communities across Europe.
