Objectives

The objective of the project was to strengthen the competences of youth workers and youth organisations in the use of podcasting, media literacy, and dissemination strategies, in order to promote youth-led initiatives more effectively in rural and remote areas. The project also aimed to give greater visibility to the stories, needs, and potential of young people living in these territories, encouraging their active participation and involvement in community life. Another objective was to create accessible educational tools and digital content capable of supporting the work of the partner organisations beyond the project’s duration. Through international cooperation, the project also sought to encourage the exchange of good practices, innovation in youth work, and the strengthening of networks among organisations active in rural and remote contexts.

Background

We applied for this project to respond to concrete needs identified in rural and remote areas of Italy, Spain, and Iceland, where many young people were facing fewer opportunities for participation, limited access to quality educational opportunities, and low visibility for their own initiatives. The project also addressed a shared need among the partner organisations to strengthen the competences of youth workers in communication, dissemination, and the use of digital media. In particular, there was a clear need to create accessible and innovative tools to give young people a voice, counter geographical isolation, and promote youth work practices that often remained under-recognised. The decision to use podcasts and participatory media made it possible to respond to these needs in a concrete way, fostering media literacy, critical thinking, active participation, and the exchange of good practices. The project therefore contributed to making youth work more visible, inclusive, and capable of generating impact in rural and remote communities.
