Our project "Performing Memories – Theatre and Dance" aimed to foster critical engagement of young people with remembrance culture and the processing of historical events. We wanted to: - Raise awareness of the importance of remembrance work in the fight against radicalisation and racism. - Enable young people to engage with historical events through theatre and dance and to reflect on their relevance for today. - Promote intercultural understanding and encourage young people to actively stand up against discrimination and injustice. - Empower participants to use creative forms of expression to deepen and publicly share their reflections on history and memory. - Contribute – through artistic work and international exchange – to the development of a critical and reflective youth, ready to advocate for a just and inclusive society. We were motivated to carry out this youth project because we... - Wanted to create a space where young people could express their memories and stories through dance and theatre – a space where they could truly be themselves and strengthen their belief in their abilities and dreams. - Aimed to offer participants a unique opportunity to express themselves through theatre and dance, helping them discover new forms of communication and self-expression. - Sought to explore different cultures through the lens of performing arts and understand their influence on personal and collective memory. - Wanted to inspire and encourage young people to engage artistically, cross cultural boundaries, and discover new perspectives. - Intended to promote the European spirit through the joint creation and performance of artistic works that reflect personal and collective stories. - Aimed to discuss and explore European values such as tolerance, solidarity, and pluralism through creative engagement with the topic of remembrance. A central goal of our project was the active inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities – with 26 participants from this target group, we have largely succeeded in reaching this goal.
