Objectives

Our main goal in implementing the STEM-IN project was to make STEM education more engaging, inclusive, and motivating for both teachers and students. We aimed to improve the quality of STEM teaching by empowering teachers with digital tools, innovative methods, and ready-to-use lesson plans that save time and increase confidence in using technology. The project sought to change the perception of STEM from something complex to something creative and accessible. We also wanted to spark students’ curiosity and interest in STEM from an early age through hands-on, inclusive activities. Another key goal was to strengthen cooperation between schools, businesses, and universities, helping schools expand STEM learning beyond the classroom. Ultimately, we aimed to create lasting positive change in how STEM is taught and experienced in diverse learning environments.

Background

We applied for the STEM-IN project to address real challenges observed in primary STEM education. In both Lithuania and Spain, students’ performance in STEM is low, and teachers often lack practical resources, time, and digital confidence to design innovative and inclusive lessons. Our needs analysis showed that teachers require ready-to-use materials and professional development to effectively implement technology-based and hands-on teaching. Another key challenge is the growing diversity of students with different learning abilities, making it difficult to create one adaptable lesson plan. Moreover, schools expressed a strong need to build cooperation with external partners such as businesses, universities, and other schools but lacked clear guidance and examples. The STEM-IN project was designed to respond these needs by developing inclusive STEM lesson plans, teachers training tools, and a partnership guide, supporting language accessibility and inclusion. Through international collaboration, we aimed to improve teaching practices, strengthen teachers’ motivation, and increase students’ interest in STEM.
