We wanted to use art and simple art-therapy inspired activities to support people in need, especially Ukrainian refugees and other young people with fewer opportunities. The project was developed in response to the concrete situation in our communities, where newly arrived young people and local youth needed safe, creative spaces to meet on equal terms, share experiences and feel part of the same community. Our main objective was to bridge intercultural and social divides between refugees and host communities through collaborative art workshops, school visits and community events. We aimed to support the reception and integration of refugees and migrants by helping young people reflect on experiences of migration, prejudice and exclusion in an accessible, non-threatening way, while strengthening empathy, intercultural dialogue and mutual respect. By working closely with local schools and community actors in Skaudvilė, the project also focused on community development and stronger links between young people, educators and local institutions. At the same time, we wanted participants to develop concrete competences they can use afterwards: facilitation and leadership skills, basic trauma-sensitive approaches in youth work, teamwork across cultures, and simple art-based methods for inclusion. A further objective was to build a longer-term network of organisations committed to supporting the inclusion and well-being of young refugees and other vulnerable young people through Erasmus+ projects and local follow-up activities.
