The “AI Empowered Changemakers” project set out to harness the transformative power of digital innovation to strengthen youth work across Europe and beyond. Our main objective was to empower youth workers with the skills, tools, and ethical understanding necessary to effectively integrate artificial intelligence and other digital tools into their work with young people. We aimed to address several pressing challenges youth workers and young people face in today’s digital society: Bridging the digital divide – We equipped youth workers from diverse backgrounds, including those working with marginalized or underserved groups, with accessible AI and digital skills. By doing so, we ensured that all young people, regardless of background, could be included in and benefit from technological advancements. Strengthening digital literacy – Participants gained not only technical know-how but also developed critical thinking and ethical awareness regarding digital content and AI. This allowed them to guide young people more effectively in using digital tools responsibly and creatively, fostering both safety and empowerment online. Promoting inclusion through technology – The project used digital platforms—including VR and the metaverse—to engage communities traditionally at risk of exclusion. Youth workers learned how to create spaces and content that are accessible to individuals with disabilities or language barriers, ensuring that technology acted as a bridge, not a barrier. Empowering youth workers as changemakers – Through intensive workshops and hands-on practice, participants gained expertise in digital storytelling, marketing, and communication strategies. These skills now help them amplify their organizations’ missions, reach broader audiences, and support young people’s initiatives more effectively. Fostering ethical digital engagement – The training addressed essential topics like data privacy, online safety, and the risks of AI misuse. By raising awareness and providing clear tools for safe digital practices, we helped youth workers build more secure and responsible digital environments for the young people they support. In summary, the project created a strong synergy between youth work and digital innovation. Youth workers left the training better equipped to lead with confidence in a digital age, more inclusive in their approach, and more capable of supporting young people to actively shape their own digital futures. The project contributed directly to EU priorities in the fields of digital transformation, inclusion and diversity, and participatory youth work—laying the foundation for long-term impact on local, national, and European levels.
