Objectives

"Social Inclusion Advocates" is professional development activity - training course of youth workers organised by Lithuanian association "Neribota ateitis" together with partners from 9 organisations of different European countries. Aim: The aim of "Social Inclusion Advocates" (SIA) is to equip youth workers and organizations to be effective advocates for social inclusion in their communities and projects. We aspire to create a network of individuals and organizations dedicated to breaking down barriers and building inclusive environments. Objectives: - Enhance the capacity of youth workers to understand and address the diverse barriers faced by individuals with fewer opportunities, including refugees and migrants. - Promote inclusive practices within youth work, ensuring that projects and activities are accessible to participants from a variety of backgrounds. - Contribute to implementation of EU strategy, focusing on inclusion and diversity, and ensuring equal opportunities and access. In response to the evolving demographic landscape, including the increasing number of refugees "SIA" is a TC designed to empower youth workers and organizations with the skills and knowledge needed to foster social inclusion. Youth today come from increasingly diverse backgrounds, including different cultures, socio-economic statuses, and abilities. This diversity adds complexity to the youth field, as it necessitates a nuanced understanding of the unique challenges faced by various groups of young people. Despite progress, numerous barriers persist that hinder the social inclusion of young people. These barriers can be related to factors such as discrimination, economic disparities, disabilities, mental health issues, and cultural differences. Recognizing and addressing these barriers is a central concern. The relevance of social inclusion skills for youth workers and their NGOs lies in their main role in creating well-being and development of young people, particularly those from diverse backgrounds or facing various barriers. Youth workers are at the forefront of creating safe and inclusive spaces for young people. Social inclusion skills equip them with the knowledge and strategies needed to foster an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and included, regardless of their background or circumstances. To effectively engage young people in meaningful activities and initiatives, youth workers must understand the unique challenges and barriers faced by different individuals. In many cases, youth workers interact with young people who may be marginalized or disadvantaged. Social inclusion skills help them to identify and address barriers, whether they are related to disabilities, cultural differences, economic disparities, or other factors. By breaking down these barriers, youth workers can provide equal opportunities for all. Social inclusion skills often involve conflict resolution and communication techniques. Youth workers may encounter conflicts among young people due to differences in backgrounds or experiences. So it helps to mediate conflicts and promote understanding and cooperation. NGOs dedicated to youth work often have values of inclusivity, diversity, and social justice at their core. Social inclusion skills align with these values and help organizations fulfill their missions more effectively. Just as a lack of emotional intelligence can lead to stress and negative emotions in the context of youth work, a lack of social inclusion skills can result in exclusion, discrimination, and a lack of opportunities for young people. Developing these skills reduces such negative effects and contributes to a more positive and supportive atmosphere. To sum up, social inclusion skills are essential for youth workers and their NGOs as they enable the creation of inclusive, empowering, and supportive environments for young people. These skills not only benefit the workers themselves but also have a profound impact on the well-being, development, and opportunities of the young people they serve. They align with the core values of youth work and help organizations fulfill their missions effectively. The "SIA" project aligns closely with the objectives of the Erasmus+ programme, particularly those related to youth, especially with Inclusion and Diversity Strategy: Create a common understanding among young people with fewer opportunities: The project directly contributes to this aim by raising awareness of the barriers individuals with fewer opportunities face and providing strategies to address them. Increase commitment to inclusion and diversity: By empowering youth workers to advocate for social inclusion, the project fosters a greater commitment to inclusion and diversity within the youth work sector. Reduce obstacles for young people with fewer opportunities to participate in the program: The project's focus on equipping youth workers to address barriers directly aligns with this objective.
