Project Summary: Empowering Voices: Equipping Youth in Media Creation for Social Change In today's global landscape, hate speech and stereotypes continue to proliferate across various media platforms, often influencing young minds and perpetuating cycles of prejudice and intolerance. There is a pressing need to counteract these narratives with content that reflects the true diversity and complexity of societies. Equipping youth with the skills to create and disseminate media content that promotes positive values is crucial for fostering a more inclusive and respectful world. This project addresses this need by empowering those who work with youth to guide and support young creators in making their voices heard for social change. Main Goal The overarching goal of "Empowering Voices: Equipping Youth in Media Creation for Social Change" is to empower youth workers and youth leaders with the necessary tools and knowledge to train young people in creating impactful media content. This content will aim to confront hate speech and advance the values of diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect. Through media creation, young individuals will be enabled to produce counter-narratives that dismantle stereotypes and promote a culture of understanding across diverse communities. Objectives - Skill Development for Youth Workers: Train youth workers to mentor young people in producing media content that challenges hate speech, while promoting diversity and inclusion. - Utilization of Media Platforms: Empower youth workers to utilize various media platforms to enable young individuals to voice counter-narratives that challenge stereotypes and foster a culture of mutual respect and understanding. - International Collaboration: Foster international collaboration among youth workers from different countries to share effective methodologies and amplify their efforts in combating hate speech through youth-led media projects. Training Course in Yerevan, Armenia To achieve its objectives, the project will organize a Training Course in Yerevan, Armenia, from April 11-20, 2025. This event will gather 37 participants from Lithuania, Estonia, Armenia, and Georgia, offering them a comprehensive training experience focused on the production of inclusive and respectful media content. Tangible Outputs 1. Empowering Voices Training Manual: A unique guide developed by youth workers for youth workers, detailing methodologies and practices for mentoring young media creators. This manual will serve as a valuable resource for facilitating workshops and training sessions aimed at producing media content for social change. 2. No to Hate: Youth Media Workshops: After the training course, participants will conduct four workshops, one in each participating country, with the aim of implementing the strategies outlined in the training manual. These workshops will focus on practical media production skills, storytelling, and ethical considerations when creating content addressing social issues. Non-Formal Learning Methods The training course will employ various non-formal learning methods to ensure an engaging and effective learning experience. These methods include: - Interactive Workshops: Hands-on sessions where participants will learn through doing, creating media content under guidance. - Group Discussions: Facilitated dialogues that allow participants to share ideas, experiences, and strategies for combating hate speech through media. - Role-Playing: Simulations and role-playing exercises to understand different perspectives and the impact of media on public opinion. - Peer Learning: Opportunities for participants to learn from each other's experiences and insights, fostering a collaborative learning environment. - Creative Assignments: Projects and assignments that encourage participants to apply what they've learned in innovative and creative ways. By integrating these non-formal learning methods, the project aims not only to impart knowledge and skills but also to inspire a sense of agency among youth workers and their beneficiaries, enabling them to make a tangible impact in their communities through media creation.
