Objectives

Eurostat data reveals that in March 2021, approximately 15.520 million individuals were unemployed in the EU-27, with 13.166 million in the euro area (EA-19). This marked a decrease of 237,000 and 209,000 individuals in the EU and euro area, respectively, compared to February 2021. However, when compared to March 2020, unemployment figures rose by 2.019 million in the EU and 1.614 million in the euro area. In March 2021, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area was 8.1%, down from 8.2% in February 2021 but up from 7.1% in March 2020. Similarly, the EU unemployment rate was 7.3% in March 2021, slightly lower than February 2021's 7.4% but higher than March 2020's 6.4%. Contrastingly, LT experienced a rise in unemployment, with rates increasing to 12.8% in May 2019 from 9.7% in the same period the previous year. The number of unemployed surged by 32.6% to 4.157 million, while employment dropped by 3% to 28.269 million. Over the years, LT's unemployment rate has fluctuated, averaging 10.23% from 2005 to 2019, reaching a peak of 14.80% in February 2009 and a low of 7.30% in June 2012. Youth unemployment remains a pressing issue, with 2.951 million young individuals (under 25) unemployed in the EU and 2.373 million in the euro area as of March 2021. The youth unemployment rates were 17.1% in the EU and 17.2% in the euro area, slightly lower than the previous month. However, compared to March 2020, there was an increase of 319,000 youth unemployed in the EU and 208,000 in the euro area. In light of these challenges, DARNOJE aims to address youth unemployment by focusing on career counseling and guidance. The organization believes that supporting international partnerships between education and youth institutions can enhance the employability of young people. The objectives of the Training Course include understanding the issue of youth unemployment, developing career counseling tools and methods for youth workers, fostering mutual understanding among youth workers, directing young people to suitable environments based on their talents, sharing best practices, promoting positive attitudes towards the job market, creating support systems for young people, delivering tools for career counseling of NEETs, and exploring and adopting digital tools for career counseling in daily youth work.
