Objectives

The International Music Week (IMW) was founded on the belief that music serves as a universal language and a powerful instrument for integration. The project aimed to bring together young people from diverse backgrounds to promote unity and mutual understanding in response to the growing challenges of nationalism and fragmentation in Europe. The IMW offered young amateur musicians the unique opportunity to perform in a symphonic orchestra - an experience often reserved for music students or professionals -while also benefiting from the diverse social, cultural, and educational backgrounds of the participants. Through a combination of musical and social learning objectives, the participants were encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of Europe and the particularities of its member countries. The project fostered an appreciation of the interconnection between European cultures and reinforced the notion that diversity is a key element of European identity. Ultimately, the IMW sought to promote the value of encounters, cultural and linguistic discovery, and human and musical exchange among young participants and the wider public.
