Objectives

The “Echoes of Environment and Digitalisation” project was a youth exchange initiative designed to tackle the intersection of environmental awareness, digital literacy, and active youth participation. The project responded to the urgent need to bridge the gap between sustainability education and digital tools, empowering young people to become proactive advocates for climate action. Through audioguide creation, participants explored innovative ways to engage their peers and communities in environmental protection while strengthening their critical thinking and media literacy skills. This 8-month project brought together 42 participants (including young people, group leaders, facilitators) from Latvia, Austria, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Czechia, Slovakia, and Serbia. The exchange took place in Vienna, Austria, from November 1–8, 2024 (including travel), followed by local follow-up initiatives in each participating country. Participants explored three primary areas: • ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: Understanding ecological challenges, responsible consumption, and greenwashing. • DIGITAL CONTENT CREATION: Learning how to produce audioguides as interactive educational tools. • ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP: Developing leadership and community engagement skills to foster climate advocacy. The project set the following objectives divided into two categories: A. DIGITAL SUSTAINABILITY EDUCATION There was a need to enhance youth participation in climate action through digital tools. The learning outcomes included: 1. Development of critical transversal skills (personal and professional) to facilitate meaningful engagement in environmental issues. 2. Acquisition of digital storytelling skills, including audioguide production, voice narration, and editing to create impactful climate content. 3. Improved awareness of misinformation and greenwashing, equipping youth with fact-checking and critical thinking skills. 4. Understanding the connection between digital literacy and environmental advocacy, ensuring young people can mobilize their communities effectively. 5. Encouragement of cooperative decision-making and collective action in environmental protection. B. ENVIRONMENTAL ENGAGEMENT & WELLBEING There was a need to foster youth agency in sustainability efforts while addressing the emotional impact of climate change. The learning outcomes included: 1. Strengthened connection to nature and environmental responsibility, fostering a deeper appreciation for sustainability practices. 2. Development of teamwork and leadership skills, preparing participants to mobilize peers and lead initiatives in their local communities. 3. Increased ability to cope with climate anxiety through discussions, reflection, and engagement in solution-driven activities. 4. Empowerment to initiate local environmental projects and build networks for continued collaboration. 5. Promotion of a participatory learning culture, where young people co-create knowledge and share best practices. The project employed Non-Formal Education methodologies, combining theoretical insights with hands-on digital production. Guided by a coordinator, facilitators, and group leaders, participants engaged in a blend of structured learning, creative expression, and collaborative problem-solving. By the end of the exchange, participants were equipped with the skills, tools, and motivation to take climate action and inspire their communities.
