Objectives

"Speaking Up Through Photography" was a youth exchange project focused on non-formal education, centered around photography and digital tools. The project aimed to help young people express and address various challenges they face, including social, economic, and geographical issues, through the art of photography. In today's world, where photography can be a profitable career option for youth, the project also provided participants with an opportunity to develop practical skills. Through their photos, the young people shared their personal experiences, offering insights into the difficulties they encounter. The project brought together young people from eight different countries—Latvia, Bulgaria, Portugal, Spain, Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova—aged 18-30, who primarily faced socio-economic and geographical challenges. It took place from September 14-23, 2024, in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia, a well-known resort with excellent infrastructure. Based on non-formal education, the project allowed participants to freely express themselves and learn through a peer-to-peer environment, with ongoing management, assessment, and evaluation throughout the exchange. Aligned with the objectives of the Erasmus+ program, the project aimed to foster mutual understanding and enhance the quality of the initiative. Its goal was to help young people living in rural areas across different countries improve their photography skills and express their problems through the art of photography. The main objectives of the project were: • Implement photography workshops to teach participants the technical aspects of photography, as well as creative expression through visual storytelling. • Facilitate cross-cultural exchanges by encouraging participants to capture and share images that represent the challenges that they face and to use photography as a tool for raising awareness about social issues, advocating for positive change • Provide a platform for participants to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and experiences • Enhance participants' visual literacy skills, enabling them to critically analyze and interpret images while understanding the impact of visuals on social perceptions. • Create online platforms or exhibitions to showcase participants' work, providing a broader audience with insights into different cultures, perspectives, and social issues. • Equip participants with not only photography skills but also knowledge in digital storytelling, editing, and utilizing social media platforms to amplify their messages. • Promote the Erasmus+ program as a platform for non-formal education on digital citizenship and YouthPass as a certification and self-assessment tool. The youth exchange project was based on non-formal education and included different outdoor photo shooting activities, team-building activities, energizers, icebreakers and etc.
