The "Green FashiON" is a Youth Exchange project that is addressing critical social issues related to the rapidly growing fashion industry. The planet earth is struggling with the current growth of the population and increased consumption, with the fashion industry playing a significant role. According to McKinsey & Company, since 2000 clothing production has doubled exceeding 100 billion for the first time in 2014. Current estimates range between 100 and 150 billion garments annually, highlighting the significant environmental impact of this growth. The environmental consequences of the fashion industry, including pollution in ecosystems and oceans, are global challenges requiring urgent attention. While issues like environmental degradation, human health concerns, and global warming may be more pronounced in the world, industrialized countries like those in Europe contribute heavily to these problems. Unfortunately, awareness about the impact of fashion choices on the environment remains low. To address this, “Green FashiON “ seeks to initiate a societal shift towards a green economy and lifestyle among youth, transcending national borders and language barriers. As young people, we go for a trend of buying lots of clothes without paying much attention to the environment. Many of us have limited budgets, so we often go for cheap clothes often made of polyester by fashion discounters. By tapping into this environmental consciousness, the project aims to offer sustainable alternatives and promote a shift towards eco-friendly fashion choices that will be relevant to youth regardless of budget. The main and ultimate goal of this youth exchange is to gather a group of young enthusiasts and with the peer-to-peer learning approaches and all of them together to share experiences, good practices on remaking, redesigning, repairing, and upcycling clothes, and to encourage them to make ethical changes and become conscious consumers, but most importantly to become ambassadors of the green change and to bring the topic to other young people and make them aware by develop future national and international projects. Overall, the “Green FashiON” project sets the following objectives: - To establish a safe and empowering space for youngsters from different countries to exchange skills and practices on the topic of fast fashion and the entire concept of sustainable way of living - To gain hands-on skills in upcycling, sewing, and embroidery to repurpose and redesign clothing - To develop and implement swap shop concept as a tool for environmental awareness, solidarity and youth empowerment - Promotion of creative thinking among participants through practical sessions and dispose of their dormant potential; - To document and share the process and results of the exchange though the use of digital tools and social media to engage other youth - To identify the competencies that can be obtained through European non-formal learning projects and their certification by Youthpass; - To explore the possibilities of the Erasmus + program as a tool for cultural education and mobility
