While implementing the project “Bridge of Trust,” we aimed to highlight a significant issue – the deep gap in relationships between young people and decision-makers. Both sides lack mutual trust, show little interest in each other, and have low motivation to engage. In our municipality, Bauska District – especially outside the city – young people lack engaging and relevant information about participation in civic and democratic life. They also lack practical activities where they can learn about opportunities for participation, about local decision-makers, elections, and their impact. The information provided in school curricula is insufficient to educate young people and promote their engagement. Therefore, through this project, we sought to provide young people with meaningful and engaging information using non-formal education methods by organizing several activities. The main goal of our project was to foster sustainable mutual relationships and trust between young people and decision-makers, as well as to promote young people’s understanding of the importance and opportunities of civic participation in Bauska District. To achieve this overall goal, several sub-goals were identified: Foster trust among young people toward decision-makers. Develop informal relationships between decision-makers and young people. Motivate young people to participate in civic activities. Expand young people’s knowledge of civic processes.
