Objective of the project “Develop the participation skills of young people from Rezekne Technical School and other technical/vocational schools in order to create an environment for regular exchange of opinions and cooperation with decision-makers at the local, municipal and national levels.” Justification of the objective Before the project, we conducted a survey on how many young people from the technical school know about the goals of European youth, how they understand the concept of participation and to what extent they are involved in public processes. 76% admitted that they have no knowledge and understanding of the goals, projects and opportunities of European youth sector. Only about 20% of respondents had at least a minimal understanding of what participation is, only a few are involved in self-government work and other participatory activities. During the project, we wanted to deepen both our own and the widest possible audience's understanding of participation and its types, encourage them to get involved and represent the interests of their peers in negotiations with decision-makers at different levels. To achieve the objective, we set the following tasks. 1. Create a team of self-government and other active young people named “Vēstneši”. We wanted to learn various participation skills: formulate and argue opinions, speak confidently, encourage others, collect opinions, improve critical thinking. In order to be able to address and involve other young people more actively, we wanted to learn to organize information campaigns, regular surveys, improve advertising skills, so that the content of publications would be interesting to the youth audience. During the training events, we planned to prepare for conducting the information campaign “Participation” and develop tasks, games, videos, which could also be used in the future to create and promote awareness of participation. 2. Organize an information campaign basing on the principle “young people to young people” for our peers at Rezekne Technical School, in order to create their understanding of participation, opportunities and encourage them to get involved. We wanted to create an opportunity for young people to participate in simple participation activities at Rezekne Technical School and in the municipality. 3. Organize a forum of youth self-governments from Latvian vocational and technical schools “Change the world – start with yourself” to share their project experience, promote understanding of youth participation in other schools, identify the participation experience of different schools, and build further cooperation. 4. Find out and collect the opinions of young people on the necessary changes in Rezekne Technical School and other vocational education institutions. Meet with decision-makers at various levels to represent the opinions of young people and seek solutions.
