Objectives

The FD project will result in ready to use tools - survey overview, recorded interviews with experts, top advice list, animated cartoons, workshop descriptions and video masterclasses - to equip youth workers and teachers in supporting young people's media literacy and critical thinking competences in a creative way.

Background

The project was initiated in response to growing concerns about the vulnerability of young people—especially from Russian-speaking minority communities in Latvia and Estonia—to fake news and online disinformation. The rise of social media as a primary information source made it increasingly difficult for youth to critically evaluate content. Media literacy education was limited, often inaccessible in minority languages, and rarely engaging. Youth workers and educators lacked practical tools to teach critical thinking effectively. The project aimed to fill this gap by developing creative, youth-friendly resources, including animation-based tools, expert input, and interactive workshops. It also sought to empower professionals with methods to support young people's digital resilience. The use of storytelling and animation was chosen as an attractive, inclusive method to raise awareness and encourage personal reflection, especially among those traditionally less engaged in civic education.
