Objectives

We designed the "Digital Competences for Youth-Led Social Entrepreneurship" Youth Exchange, realized through the Accreditation, as a timely and intentional intervention to the challenges that young people across Europe today face. High levels of youth unemployment, the rapid pace of digital transformation, and a widespread lack of civic engagement among young generations have created a sense of urgency for educational and participatory projects to empower young people to lead social change. Recognizing this, our overarching goal was to support active participation in democratic life through building a powerful synergy of digital empowerment and social entrepreneurship As Youth on Board, we built this project around a deep belief that young people are not only future change-makers, but also present-day catalysts for innovation, creativity and transformation. By providing them with the tools, confidence, and mindset we aimed to help them create necessary, meaningful ventures that recognize and tackle real-world social challenges. In addition, we aimed to promote their active participation in democratic processes at the local, national, and European level, as a gateway to implementing change. Furthermore, we set out clear and interconnected objectives. Firstly, through the project we aimed to equip participants with a variety of digital skills relevant to the changing landscape of today. These skills included the use of AI, visual content creation, and online tools for collaboration. Utilizing these skills, we aimed to empower and prepare them to build, promote, and manage impactful social enterprises. Second, the project sought to foster entrepreneurial thinking by guiding participants through the development of business models aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. Through this, we aimed to encourage them to propose solutions for societal problems affecting their communities, while being able to think critically about solving these issues in a sustainable way. Our third and very important objective was to strengthen the participants' capacity for civic engagement. This included a focus on critical thinking, public speaking, and participatory decision-making as key skills for youth participation in democratic life on several levels. Throughout the project, participants explored the role of youth shaping public policies, learned about institutional mechanisms such as local youth councils, and engaged in simulations that mirrored democratic decision-making environments. Utilizing these methods, we aimed to encapsulate the feeling of participation in these democratic processes to young people, thus raising their interest for engaging in decision making in their local settings. The project also prioritized inclusivity and intercultural learning, bringing together participants from 5 different countries. We facilitated an exchange of culture that created a vibrant, safe space for dialogue, cooperation, and collective exploration of European values. Doing so, helped forge meaningful international networks and friendships that will continue beyond the scope of the project. This represented our additional objective of promoting interconnectedness, cooperation, and knowledge exchange between youngsters. Ultimately, our goal was not only to transfer knowledge but also ignite a lasting transformation. The project was designed to turn ideas into actions, technology into empowerment, and ambition into community impact. Parallel to this, utilizing a framework that emphasized youth agency, social responsibility, and democratic participation.
