Objectives

The Overall project goal is to improve the quality of primary education by producing an inclusive and innovative chess teaching model. By combining digital animations with multilingual teaching resources, the project aims to make chess accessible, engaging, and age-appropriate for students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, while supporting their broader academic development. SO1:To enhance teachers’ competencies in implementing innovative learning by using digital resources and inclusive teaching methods, enabling them to deliver high-quality lessons and interactive classrooms. SO2:To provide students with accessible, engaging, and tailored learning method, fostering overall academic and personal development, not only in chess but also in mathematics, reading, and science, and thus preparing them for the growing expectations of the European education system. SO3:To increase awareness among parents and the wider community about the educational, cognitive, and social benefits of school chess. Through these objectives, the project aimed to create sustainable and scalable educational practices that benefit teachers, students, and the wider community while promoting digital, inclusive, and innovative learning.

Background

The high demands of the EU educational agenda, the complexity of existing chess curricula, and the low awareness of chess’s impact on student development prompted us to act. In Macedonia, most chess video lessons were available only in English and filled with advanced terminology, making them inaccessible to young learners and challenging for teachers to apply. At the same time, parents and the wider community had limited knowledge of chess’s benefits for mathematics, reading, science, concentration, and problem-solving. To address these needs, the project developed an inclusive digital chess education model that combines animated videos inspired by world-famous fairytales, interactive exercises, and structured lesson resources, all translated and synchronized into MK, AL, TR, EN, and BG. This ensures accessibility for all students while also strengthening teachers’ competences in digital pedagogy, communication, and innovative methods. By aligning with the Pathway to School Success and the European Education Area, the project promotes quality, inclusive, and engaging education, improves student performance, nurtures creativity and teamwork, and contributes to the digital transformation of schools in line with Erasmus+ priorities.
