The project "I, You, We, They Can" aimed to introduce innovative and human-centered practices for approaching, communicating with, assisting and supporting young people with disabilities. The main focus was on strengthening the capacities of social, medical and educational professionals to work more effectively in inclusive settings, including underdeveloped infrastructure. Furtherly, the project aimed to raise awareness among decision-makers and the wider public about the importance of creating an inclusive environment that promotes dignity, independence and improved quality of life for young people with disabilities.
Equality NGO applied for this project to address a common and shared need in North Macedonia, Poland and Spain: stronger, more practical support for young people with disabilities and/or special educational needs (SEN) and improved cooperation between education, social and health professionals, as it was detected that in all partnering countries, many young people with disabilities still face barriers to inclusive education, participation and independent living. The project addressed several key needs: limited cross-sector communication between professionals; insufficient practical skills and tools for professionals, especially in underdeveloped environments; and limited involvement of parents and young people with disabilities in coordinated support processes. It also responded to the need for more human-centered, adaptable and innovative methods that can be applied in real-life settings. For the partner organisations, the project was an opportunity to strengthen capacities, exchange positive EU practices and jointly develop approaches that improve inclusion and quality of life for young people with disabilities.
