When we set out to coordinate Level Up for Community, our goal was to create an unforgettable, hands-on experience that would empower young people to realise their potential as active citizens. This was our first youth exchange as coordinators, and we wanted to make sure that it was a transformational journey for everyone involved. The project was born from the young people themselves—a group of teens who had experienced a previous Erasmus+ youth exchange and felt inspired to expand the opportunity to others. They took the lead in shaping the project from the very beginning, proving that when young people are given the tools and space to lead, they thrive and inspire others. Our key objectives were: To deepen participants’ understanding of youth participation - not just as a concept, but as something they can actively practice in their own communities. To explore Roger Hart’s Ladder of Participation- helping young people identify different levels of engagement and reflect on how to apply them in real life. To equip them with practical skills - ranging from communication and digital storytelling to project planning, so they could take real steps toward making change. To spark curiosity about Erasmus+ and European identity - encouraging participants, especially those new to the programme, to explore further opportunities. We wanted the project to be interactive, engaging, and relevant to the realities of young people’s lives. Looking back, it did exactly that and more.
