We aimed to: Objective 1: Initiate Collaborative Knowledge Exchange Initiate a platform for collaborative knowledge exchange, firstly between our two partner organizations, then connecting the organizations in our network, to share best practices, break down prejudices, and promote diversity. Objective 2: Empower Youth Workers and Organizations Empower youth workers and organizations with the knowledge and skills to engage marginalized youth effectively. Objective 3: Equip with Innovative Tools and Methods Equip youth workers and youth organizations with innovative tools and methods for understanding and reaching marginalized youth, thereby preventing racism and intolerance. Objective 4: Develop Non-formal Learning Materials Develop non-formal learning materials and a toolbox with innovative methods for combating discrimination and fostering social inclusion. Objective 5: Humanize the Problem Humanize the problem by creating a book, website, and video material of real-life stories to challenge prejudices, highlight the impact of racism, and promote empathy and understanding. Objective 6: Foster Community Building Foster community building and ongoing dialogue to enhance the project’s impact and promote collaboration.
Mosaic of Minds began with what youth workers kept telling us in Utrecht, in Waldheim, everywhere: “I want to help these young people, but sometimes I just can’t reach them.” And young people said the same in reverse: they wanted adults who truly listened, especially when they carried experiences of racism, exclusion, or cultural disconnection that were hard to express. These stories were so consistent that we couldn’t ignore them. Research from The Guardian and the European Website on Integration confirmed what we saw on the ground: discrimination and misunderstanding shape the daily reality of many young people in Europe. So we designed a project that listens first and creates second. We wanted something bottom-up, built from real experiences instead of assumptions, a way to help youth workers understand the young people in front of them, not the stereotype on paper. Mosaic of Minds became our shared response: a human, cross-border effort to bring youth workers closer to the lived realities of the young people they support, and to contribute in a small but meaningful way to Europe’s wider push for inclusion and anti-racism.
