Objectives

The aim of the project “Hello Beetle! Youth 4 Nature! Learning in Practice”,implemented by the Podlaskie Voivodeship Headquarters of the Voluntary Labour Corps (PWK OHP) in Białystok under the Erasmus+ Youth Accreditation, was to develop international cooperation with foreign partners through maintaining and strengthening existing contacts, building cooperation networks and creating foundations for future joint initiatives. The project involved a total of 88 participants, including 60 young people taking part in two international youth exchanges,10 group leaders and 18 staff representatives participating in the educational staff mobility in Italy, which included job shadowing, study visits and workshops. The implementation of the project was in line with the Internationalisation Strategy of PWK OHP and the objectives of the Erasmus+ Youth Accreditation. The main objective of the project was to improve the quality of youth work and staff work through competence development, the use of non-formal education methods, learning through practical experience and the exchange of good practices in an international environment. An important objective was also to support the integration and intercultural activity of OHP participants from different educational units in the Podlaskie region by enabling them to participate in international non-formal education activities implemented through youth exchanges. The objectives of the youth exchanges included the development of social, intercultural, linguistic and civic competences through cooperation in international groups and participation in active educational methods.A particular objective was to enable the participation of young people with fewer opportunities, who previously often did not have the opportunity to interact with peers from other countries. The project strengthened the openness of young people and staff to cultural diversity, developed communication in an international environment and counteracted stereotypes and prejudices through cultural, environmental, floristry, gardening and woodworking workshops,team-building activities, educational excursions and city games. Another important objective of the project was to increase young people's environmental awareness through practical activities related to environmental protection, sustainable lifestyles and care for the local environment.Participants developed knowledge and skills through activities such as creating insect and bird houses, making “forest in a jar” ecosystems, preparing plant arrangements and activities related to green space development. The project encouraged young people to undertake environmental and social activities, showing that even small actions can have a positive impact on the local environment. The objectives of the educational staff mobility included improving the quality of youth work by learning about and improving non-formal education methods, new forms of work and tools used in educational activities, including those related to digital technologies. The mobility enabled the exchange of experiences and good practices between staff representatives from Poland,Italy and Greece in the field of youth work,non-formal education and Erasmus+ project implementation. The activity supported the development of competences needed to organise international activities, including logistics, working methods, risk management, evaluation, safety, facilitation and solving challenges appearing in an international environment. The implementation of the project contributed to the development of social, intercultural, linguistic and professional competences of young people and staff from Poland and partner organisations.Measurable results of youth activities included, among others, insect and bird houses,“forest in a jar” ecosystems, plant arrangements and other environmental outcomes transferred to the local environment. The result of the educational staff mobility was gaining new experience and competences in the field of non-formal education, working with young people in an international environment, using new working methods and implementing Erasmus+ projects. The project strengthened the international cooperation of PWK OHP with foreign partners and increased the organisation’s experience in conducting educational activities. The achieved results were disseminated through outdoor exhibitions of young people’s work,a report, information materials and sharing good practices in the local and professional environment of participants. An additional result of the project was receiving by PWK OHP a distinction in the Selfie+ competition organised within the Erasmus+ Programme in 2025 for the photograph entitled “Touch of Nature”.The project results will be used in further work with young people and staff as well as in the implementation of future international initiatives.
