Objectives

The aim of the project was to create a space for deep reflection on the phenomenon of stereotypes, their origins, and their impact on the lives of individuals and entire communities. We primarily wanted to achieve greater awareness among participants about what stereotypes are, the mechanisms that cause them to emerge, and the ways in which they become entrenched in society and influence interpersonal relationships. The starting point was the confrontation of stereotypes with reality – an experience that young people often encountered during previous Erasmus+ projects while working with people from different parts of the world. The main goal of the project was to make participants aware that stereotypes – although often functioning unconsciously – have a real and frequently very negative impact on people’s lives. Through various forms of work, such as discussions, surveys, and the exchange of experiences, we aimed to explore the origins of stereotypes and show how strongly they shape social attitudes, often leading to discrimination, exclusion, or inequality. The project also had a practical dimension – it was not limited to diagnosing the problem but also aimed at developing methods and tools that would allow participants to better recognize stereotypes in their environment and then consciously fight against them. A particularly important goal was to break down participants’ own prejudices towards the partner countries and to raise awareness that stereotypes can affect not only distant communities but also one’s closest surroundings and everyday situations. A key element of the project was to demonstrate the destructive power of stereotypes through concrete examples. We wanted to make young people more sensitive to the fact that labeling social or national groups leads to real consequences – from difficulties in building intercultural relations to limiting career opportunities or causing long-term emotional problems. By working in an international group, participants had the opportunity to confront their own assumptions with reality and thus realize how misleading thought patterns can be. In summary, the objectives of the project can be presented in four main points: 1. Understanding the nature of stereotypes and their origins – through the analysis of personal attitudes and experiences. 2. Raising awareness of the extent to which stereotypes influence social life – from individual relationships to broader social and political processes. 3. Developing methods of overcoming stereotypes and practicing critical thinking – so that young people are able to consciously counter simplified patterns. 4. Breaking down participants’ own stereotypes towards partner countries and cultures – in order to foster openness, mutual respect, and readiness for international cooperation. Ultimately, the project aimed to equip young people with knowledge and skills that would allow them to be more open-minded, aware, and critical towards stereotypes in their future lives – both personal and professional.
