Objectives

"Turn the light off" was a joint initiative of young people from Poland, Romania, and Turkey. Light pollution is a problem that is often ignored, even though it is comparable to other types of environmental pollution such as soil, water, and air contamination. We believed that young people should be aware of the issues affecting their surroundings and themselves, as well as understand how they can contribute to the responsible care of our Planet. The objectives of our project were: - to broaden knowledge and raise awareness about the issue of light pollution in our regions, countries, and globally; - to develop competences related to monitoring and measuring light pollution in the local environment; - to expand understanding of the impact of light pollution on the natural environment and human beings, as well as the role of light in human life and functioning; - to increase awareness of regulations concerning the protection of areas from light pollution and the creation of special protection zones; - to enhance competences in the area of alternative, more ecological lighting sources; - to develop skills and attitudes aimed at counteracting light pollution and shaping environmentally friendly habits.
