Objectives

The Project Harmony: Challenging Stereotypes through Film was a two-step youth exchange project that brought together young people from Poland, Macedonia, Turkey, and the Czech Republic. The project aimed to challenge stereotypes and prejudices by fostering cultural understanding through filmmaking. By exploring shared traditions and values, participants used video as a powerful tool for expression and storytelling. The project tackled the issue of prejudices and stereotypes that persist between different nations, often powered by historical tensions, social media, and migration. These factors contribute to discrimination and hate speech, especially online. Recognizing the impact of these biases, the project focused on educating young participants about their role in either spreading or challenging stereotypes. As young people are highly active on social media, they can either reinforce or break harmful narratives. By improving their critical thinking skills, participants became more open-minded, learning to reject discrimination and foster a more respectful online and offline environment. In an increasingly diverse and interconnected world, it is essential for young people to understand how stereotypes shape perceptions and how embracing cultural diversity leads to greater tolerance and mutual respect. These themes were central to the project’s discussions and activities. One of the key objectives of the project was to help participants recognize common cultural elements that unite people beyond national borders. By identifying shared traditions and values, the project encouraged young people to see similarities rather than differences, ultimately building bridges between different communities. The project engaged 32 young participants, guiding them through filmmaking training, cultural discussions, and creative activities. They worked together to produce a documentary, capturing shared traditions and cultural elements to challenge stereotypes and promote understanding. In addition, an online awareness campaign on TikTok and Facebook helped spread their message to a wider audience. Through this process, participants developed valuable skills in film production, teamwork, and critical thinking, which will benefit them in future projects and initiatives. Project objectives were: - to involve a group of 32 youngsters from 4 countries in a two phase project about culture, identity, tradition, intercultural learning, dialogue and understanding; - to broaden participants knowledge in these topics and provide them opportunity to learn how to recognize prejudices and stereotypes and break them; - to teach young people how to use video and movie making as a tool to express thus increase and improve their digital and IT skills; - to engage 32 young people in production and post production of a documentary about our cultures and common things we share, provide them opportunity to film footage, traditional things, cultural behavior; - to implement a positive social media campaign on tik-tok and facebook related to common culture. Project Harmony demonstrated that despite existing prejudices, people from different backgrounds share many common values and traditions. Through filmmaking and social media, young participants helped promote a positive message of unity and respect. The project proved that understanding, creativity, and storytelling can help overcome stereotypes and bring people closer together.
