Objectives

The project Follow Your Drums was created as a response to two interconnected challenges shaping the lives of young people today: the growing environmental crisis caused by waste and pollution, and the cultural divisions that still affect communities across Europe. Our aim was to show that creativity, rhythm, and collective action can become powerful tools for education, connection, and social change. By turning discarded materials into musical instruments and using drumming as a universal language, the project encouraged participants to rethink both their relationship with the environment and the way they interact with people from different cultures. We wanted to build a space where young people could learn about environmental responsibility not through lectures, but through hands-on experience, artistic expression, and community involvement. At the same time, we aimed to challenge stereotypes and cultural barriers by proving that cooperation and shared creativity can bring people closer, even when they come from completely different backgrounds. Through the project, the goal was to inspire critical reflection, strengthen empathy, and develop essential 21st-century skills that help young people become active and conscious members of their societies. The project was built around a clear set of objectives defined in the application form: -Increase environmental awareness among participants by 80% and among the local community by 65%. This was pursued through discussions, workshops on waste, hands-on recycling activities, a visit to the municipal waste facility, and public events that encouraged reflection on pollution and personal responsibility. -Develop empathy toward cultural differences and understanding of cultural mechanisms by 80% among participants and 50% among citizens involved during the concert. Working in mixed teams, playing music together, and sharing diverse experiences helped break down communication barriers and foster a sense of mutual respect. -Improve interpersonal competences among participants by 75%. Activities such as preparing the concert, organising tasks, building instruments, and engaging with the public strengthened communication, teamwork, and creativity. -Increase leadership competences, sense of social responsibility, and ability to work in a diverse environment by 65%. Participants were encouraged to take initiative, lead tasks, propose solutions, and take responsibility for the success of a complex, international event. -Promote innovative non-formal education methods by integrating music, recycled materials, digital tools, and AI-supported content creation. Tools such as Padlet, ChatGPT, Google Drive, Filmora, and AI video generators allowed participants to explore new ways of storytelling and environmental activism. -Create a safe and inclusive environment where every participant, regardless of background, financial situation, language level, or personal challenges, could take part fully and confidently. -Strengthen cooperation between partner organisations and create long-term partnerships rooted in shared values, sustainability, creativity, and youth empowerment. -Reach at least 500,000 people with the project’s message by publishing ecological songs, AI-generated music videos, and awareness content, and by organising a public concert designed to inspire reflection and community participation.
