The aim of the project “Think Green – Academy of Ecology” was to strengthen pro-environmental attitudes and develop ecological awareness among young people from Poland, Hungary and Ukraine through active participation in an international youth exchange. The project emerged as a grassroots initiative of young people who, faced with the growing amount of information about climate change and environmental threats, felt the need to take real action to protect the environment. One of the key objectives of the project was to increase participants’ knowledge of climate change, ecology and sustainable lifestyles, as well as to equip them with practical tools enabling them to make conscious and responsible decisions in everyday life. Participants were expected to learn how to make sustainable consumer and dietary choices and to become familiar with ways of implementing environmentally friendly solutions in their local communities. An important objective was the development of language skills, particularly communication in English. Another key aim of the project was the development of social and interpersonal competences, such as teamwork, cooperation in a multicultural environment, dialogue, expressing and justifying one’s opinions, and active listening. The project also aimed to strengthen participants’ self-confidence and sense of agency. Equally important was the development of organisational and logistical competences. In line with the project assumptions, participants were responsible for implementing planned activities, managing their time and adapting activities to current conditions, which supported learning responsibility and effective management. The project also aimed to develop creativity and creative competences among young people through artistic and manual activities, such as preparing a recycling fashion show, creating a “forest in a jar” and developing an eco-guide. Another objective was the development of digital skills. The project also sought to increase young people’s motivation for further personal, social and civic development. The experiences gained were intended to inspire participants to undertake further youth and environmental initiatives and to engage actively in social life. The final, but equally important, objective of the project was to strengthen European cooperation and participants’ sense of belonging to the European community. From the organisation’s perspective, the project also aimed to develop international cooperation and to implement, for the first time, an initiative carried out in cooperation with two foreign partners. We sought to build long-term relationships that would enable the further implementation of youth initiatives in the fields of ecology and non-formal education.
