The project “Bridges of Peace and Solidarity (Peace+)" aimed to empower young people and youth workers to become active promoters of peace, intercultural dialogue, and solidarity within their local and international communities. In an increasingly polarized world marked by conflicts, misinformation, and growing social divisions, the project sought to strengthen mutual understanding, empathy, and cooperation among youth from diverse cultural, religious, and social backgrounds. Through the implementation of Bridges of Peace and Solidarity (Peace+), we wanted to achieve a meaningful and long-lasting impact on young people by strengthening their capacity to act as peacebuilders, mediators, and advocates for understanding in their own environments. Our goal was to inspire participants to take responsibility for promoting peaceful coexistence, empathy, and solidarity in their daily lives, organisations, and communities. We aimed to encourage them to challenge intolerance and prejudice through dialogue and active participation, and to recognise their role in shaping a more peaceful Europe. Ultimately, the project sought to demonstrate that even small actions at the local level can contribute to global peacebuilding efforts and to empower young people to believe that they are part of the solution, not observers of the problem. The main objectives of the project were to: 1. To allow participants to interact and exchange experiences for deeper cultural understanding and to foster empathy. 2. To provide participants with knowledge about the origins and dynamics of conflicts, as well as tools for peaceful conflict resolution, including active listening and mediation. 3. To cultivate non-violent communication skills for assertive and empathetic expression, helping participants to recognise communication patterns that lead to misunderstandings or hostility. 4. To promote self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and responsibility for peace among participants. 5. To empower participants as agents of change in their communities through conflict resolution and the promotion of dialogue. 6. To raise awareness about the global impact of escalating conflicts, particularly on vulnerable groups. 7. To establish a network of young leaders committed to conflict prevention and resolution. 8. To motivate active contribution to global peacebuilding efforts and to encourage advocacy for policies that prioritise peaceful solutions at all levels. 9. To promote the values and opportunities of the Erasmus+ Programme, aligning with the European Youth Strategy 2021–2027, the 11 Youth Goals, and the Sustainable Development Goals. The project also connected the theme of peace to Europe’s own history and collective memory, underlining that conflict can affect any nation. By reflecting on lessons from the past and building non-violent communication and mediation skills, Peace+ empowered young people to take an active role in creating more just, inclusive, and peaceful communities.
