The project “Positive Exchange NALO” aimed to support youth development through the implementation of an international student exchange. The main goal was to enhance knowledge and develop social and soft skills among 16 students from the Non-Public Academic High School (NALO) in Poznań, through participation in a 7-day cultural and historical youth exchange with students from a Hungarian school in Budapest. The exchange took place from October 21 to 27, 2024, and gathered 32 participants from Poland and Hungary. During the exchange, students participated in a series of joint activities focused on the history, culture, and traditions of the cities involved – Poznań and Budapest. The topic of the project was chosen democratically by the students during a school event known as the Humano Narada, which significantly increased their engagement and strengthened their sense of ownership over the project. The main goal of the project included the following specific objectives: 1. increasing knowledge about European cultures through the analysis of legends and the history of both cities. 2. raising student engagement in interesting initiatives aligned with their interests. 3. strengthening the sense of European citizenship and identity through direct contact with peers from another country. 4. developing soft skills such as building social relationships, overcoming language barriers, and managing stress during public speaking. 5. experiencing new forms of working with youth (e.g., drama, improvisation) and sharing educational methods and experiences. Among the secondary goals were: 1. improving students’ language competences. 2. increasing the attractiveness and international profile of NALO, responding to the needs of young Europeans who want to be active beyond national borders. The project addressed the real needs of young people, such as the desire for self-development, recognition, taking initiative, and broadening horizons beyond formal education. It was also fully aligned with the core aims of the Erasmus+ programme, supporting non-formal learning, civic engagement, and the development of key life skills. The exchange was conducted in the spirit of positive education, which is a core principle of NALO’s educational approach. By applying innovative methods (presentations, brainstorming, group work), students not only gained knowledge but also broke down barriers, became more open, culturally aware, and socially engaged. In conclusion, the project successfully achieved all its goals – main, specific, and secondary – and had a real impact on the development of the participants as well as the enrichment of the school’s educational offer.
