Objectives

The project "Fashion Forward: Recycled Runway" was designed as a direct response to one of the most pressing challenges facing both the environment and young consumers today: the destructive impact of the fast fashion industry. Our primary aim was to educate and empower young people to take informed action through creativity, collaboration, and innovation ,transforming waste into fashion and ideas into change. We wanted to offer a platform where youth could not only learn about the environmental harm caused by unsustainable fashion practices but also actively participate in developing tangible, artistic, and digital solutions that promote a more conscious and responsible lifestyle. Through this project, we sought to ignite critical thought, foster creativity, and develop essential 21st-century skills that enable participants to become change agents in their own communities. The project had a clear set of objectives, shaped by the realities young people face in their daily lives as consumers, creatives, and global citizens: -Increase awareness of the environmental consequences of fast fashion by at least 80% among participants and 50% among local citizens through experiential learning, visual storytelling, and a public fashion event. Participants engaged in discussions, watched educational films, and led campaigns to help both themselves and the community rethink the true cost of clothing. -Expand participants’ creativity by 80% by challenging them to turn discarded materials ,such as old clothes, plastic waste, and textiles ,into wearable art. The creative process encouraged experimentation, innovation, and bold thinking while demonstrating that sustainability can go hand in hand with aesthetics and self-expression. Enhance engagement in making sustainable fashion choices (with a target of 85% among participants and 60% among local youth) by designing and publicly presenting upcycled fashion pieces during the Fashion Forward Catwalk event. This experience encouraged participants and their peers to reflect on their shopping behaviors and to explore second-hand, DIY, and eco-certified alternatives. -Develop critical thinking skills (target: 70%) by examining greenwashing practices, mass production, material sourcing, and marketing manipulation in the fashion industry. Through debates and reflections, participants were encouraged to challenge the status quo and think independently about ethical consumerism. -Create an inclusive space for youth from four different countries to collaborate, exchange cultural perspectives, and build long-lasting friendships while working on a common goal. This strengthened their interpersonal and intercultural skills, increased empathy, and enhanced their understanding of diversity and teamwork. -Improve digital competences by 75% by introducing and guiding participants in the use of cutting-edge AI tools such as Midjourney, LeonardoAI, ChatGPT, Sora, KlingAI, FakeYou, and InVideoAI. These tools were not only used to design fashion and generate promotional materials, but also to produce powerful visual narratives that raised awareness in impactful and emotionally engaging ways. -Demonstrate the ethical and creative potential of Artificial Intelligence, not as a substitute for human creativity, but as a tool for amplification. Participants learned how digital tools can support environmental activism, amplify messages, and create immersive, educational experiences. -Strengthen international cooperation between the partner organizations from Poland, Hungary, Portugal, and North Macedonia by working together through all stages of the project ,from co-creating the idea to joint implementation and dissemination. These partnerships were grounded in shared values, mutual support, and a commitment to long-term collaboration. -Promote European values, especially those of inclusion, sustainability, active citizenship, and the empowerment of young people to act as agents of change in their communities. By sharing their final results ,including the AI-generated short films, the upcycled fashion collection, and public awareness campaigns ,participants helped spread these values across local and international audiences. In short, through "Fashion Forward: Recycled Runway," we aimed to create more than a temporary learning experience ,we wanted to inspire long-lasting change in behavior, awareness, and youth engagement. By combining sustainability, art, and digital innovation, the project empowered young people to take ownership of their future and become ambassadors for a greener, more ethical world.
