Objectives

The Queer Trainers Network (QTN) was a 5-day-long Partnership Building Activity (PBA) implemented in Radziejowice, Poland, gathering 30 youth workers from 8 youth organisations from Europe and beyond. The project was designed to respond to the pressing needs of queer youth and youth workers, aiming to establish a sustainable international network of trainers and facilitators working with LGBTQIA+ youth. All participants either identified as members of the LGBTQIA+ community or were strong allies committed to advancing queer inclusion and empowerment in non-formal education. The main goal of the project was to strengthen the safety, visibility, and participation of LGBTQIA+ youth by fostering cooperation between youth organisations and building the competencies of youth workers. The activity served as a platform for community-building, peer learning, and collaborative project development. It created a much-needed space to explore and reflect on the challenges queer youth face across different national and cultural contexts and to formulate strategic responses. Throughout the activity, participants engaged in facilitated discussions, collaborative workshops, and structured exchanges of good practices. These sessions addressed the current situation of LGBTQIA+ youth in various countries, including experiences of discrimination, exclusion, and limited access to safe learning spaces. Through this process, youth workers were able to identify common needs and challenges, including the lack of clear and up-to-date guidelines to ensure safety in youth projects, the need for an international support network for queer and ally trainers, and the necessity of equipping youth workers across all sectors of non-formal education with inclusive and empowering tools. The project supported community building by fostering mutual trust among individuals and organisations. Participants developed long-lasting professional and personal connections, laying the groundwork for future collaboration. Many of the organisations involved were newcomers to the Erasmus+ program, and the QTN activity provided them with essential knowledge and tools to engage confidently with European mobility opportunities. One of the core outcomes of the PBA was the collaborative development of several project ideas addressing the needs of LGBTQIA+ youth. Participants learned about the structure and priorities of Erasmus+ KA1 and KA2 actions and worked together on drafting outlines for future projects. These initiatives were further supported by two online group mentoring sessions, held after the in-person activity, which provided continued guidance in finalising and submitting proposals for the upcoming application rounds. In addition to project development, the QTN enabled the creation and documentation of best practices. Participants contributed to the development of clear, accessible guidelines for inclusive youth work. These guidelines were based on real experiences and tested methods from across Europe and were designed to improve the quality and safety of non-formal education activities for LGBTQIA+ youth. By the end of the PBA, youth workers had strengthened the synergies between their organisations, deepened their understanding of the lived realities of LGBTQIA+ youth, and grown more confident in their ability to lead inclusive, community-driven projects. The QTN project also empowered the participants to act as multipliers within their own local and national contexts, sharing their new knowledge, strategies, and connections to benefit wider youth communities.
