The primary objective of the project was to enhance the capacity of youth workers to address trauma-related challenges in youth work through non-formal education. By focusing on trauma-informed methodologies, the project sought to increase awareness, build resilience, and equip youth workers with tools to create safer spaces for vulnerable young people. The overarching aim was to contribute to stronger and more resilient communities by improving the competencies of youth workers. Specific objectives included: - enhancing knowledge and skills the project aimed to increase participants’ awareness and understanding of trauma, its impact on young people, and the role youth workers can play in fostering resilience. By providing structured learning opportunities, the project sought to equip participants with concrete, practical tools to apply in their professional settings. - facilitating international collaboration and exchange by bringing together 30 youth workers from 10 different countries, the project created a network of professionals who could share best practices, learn from diverse perspectives, and collaborate on future projects. This exchange was critical in broadening the scope of trauma-informed youth work across multiple contexts hence some new projects were conceived and applied in February 2025 tackling the topic of trauma-informed non-formal education and trauma-informed leadership in youth work. We will offer detail about this in a different section of this report - developing practical resources - one of the key deliverables was a digital brochure that compiled relevant trauma-informed education practices. This resource aimed to support youth workers beyond the duration of the project and serve as an accessible reference for continued learning. The participants co-created a brochure based on their day-to-day experience in their organizations and the intention was to contain and make space within the brochure for all the perspectives and tools the participants came up with. - promoting self-reflection and personal growth - the project emphasized the importance of self-awareness and mental well-being for youth workers themselves. By fostering spaces for reflection, the project encouraged participants to examine their own emotional resilience and develop strategies for self-care, which in turn would make them more effective in supporting young people. - strengthening the quality of youth work - the project sought to improve youth work methodologies by incorporating trauma-sensitive approaches. Through structured learning, group discussions, and hands-on workshops, the project encouraged youth workers to adopt more compassionate, inclusive, and effective practices in their daily interactions with young people. Laying the groundwork for future initiatives: By facilitating cooperation between partner organizations, the project aimed to spark new ideas and collaborative efforts in trauma-informed youth work, ensuring sustainability and ongoing impact.
