The aim of the project was to strengthen young people’s participation in civic life through the comprehensive development of their digital, media, and leadership competences, as well as by creating real opportunities for them to influence public debate and decision-making processes. The project responded to identified needs among young people regarding the creation of their own initiatives, the critical assessment of online content, and the active co-creation of reliable information within their local communities. In particular, we observed that young people function in an information-saturated environment where there is a lack of systemic support in verifying sources, distinguishing facts from opinions, and engaging consciously and responsibly in public communication. The main objective of the project was to prepare and motivate young people to create youth civic media as sustainable local initiatives (e.g., school editorial teams, podcasts, or informational social media profiles) that would serve as tools for their social and civic engagement. The project promoted a transition from being passive recipients of content to becoming active creators and participants in public debate. We aimed to equip participants with practical skills in critical thinking, media analysis, fact-checking, identifying manipulation, and creating content in a responsible and ethical manner. The implementation of the project objectives was designed in a phased and methodologically coherent way. The first key component consisted of workshops on critical thinking, online reliability, and the basics of creating informational content, carried out in various regions of Poland. These workshops had a practical and interactive character – participants analysed examples of media messages, practiced information verification, and developed concepts for their own initiatives. The purpose of this stage was to build a solid competence foundation and prepare young people for further, more advanced project activities. The next key activity was a youth training camp aimed at deepening participants’ digital and leadership competences and strengthening their sense of agency. The camp provided a space for intensive workshop-based work, exchange of experiences among groups from different regions, and the development of teamwork, initiative planning, and communication skills. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening young people’s leadership abilities so that they could act as local leaders and multipliers of knowledge within their communities. The project culminated in a two-day youth conference, which offered young people the opportunity to publicly present the outcomes of their work and to engage in dialogue with educators, youth workers, and decision-makers. The conference included speeches by young speakers, a thematic debate, and workshop sessions. Its aim was not only to disseminate the developed initiatives but also to reinforce young people’s sense of ownership and demonstrate that their voices can be genuinely heard in the public sphere. An important objective of the project was also to develop – together with young people – recommendations concerning the inclusion of youth in media education and in local decision-making processes. Therefore, the project had not only an educational dimension but also a systemic one: we sought to build bridges between young people and institutions and to strengthen a culture of dialogue and participation. In summary, through the implementation of the project we aimed to enhance young people’s competences, agency, and civic engagement, to support the creation of sustainable youth civic media initiatives, and to strengthen their role as active participants in social life. The project combined the development of individual skills with the creation of tangible tools for participation and dialogue, in line with the objectives of the Erasmus+ Programme in promoting active youth participation.
