Objectives

Through the “EKOzmiany!” project, we aimed to strengthen young people’s sense of agency, increase their knowledge and awareness regarding the climate crisis, global awareness, environmental protection, consumerism, biodiversity, and just transition, and to demonstrate that environmental action can begin locally—at school, in the neighborhood, in the city, and in the immediate surroundings. The project addressed the need for engaging, practical, and participatory climate and environmental education among young people in the Silesian Voivodeship. This region is particularly important in the context of the energy transition, Upper Silesia’s industrial history, issues related to air quality, climate change, and the need to build new models of cooperation between young people, schools, civil society organizations, experts, and decision-makers. The main objective of the project was to strengthen young people’s sense of agency, raise their awareness of the climate crisis, encourage them to bring about change in their local communities, and promote pro-environmental ideas. Specific objectives included: raising awareness of the climate crisis, increasing knowledge about sustainable development, environmental protection, consumerism, and just transition, increasing youth participation in activities for the benefit of local communities, developing project, communication, and civic competencies, fostering pro-environmental attitudes, and creating and implementing local eco-initiatives. Another key objective was to challenge the perception that young people have no influence on the world around them. We wanted to show that even small actions—such as creating a green space at school, a forest cleanup, educational activities for younger children, a campaign against burning waste, or introducing waste sorting on school grounds—can lead to real, visible change. Although the project focused primarily on local initiatives, it had an impact across the entire Silesian Voivodeship.
