The aim of the project was to enhance the competencies of adults working with migrants and refugees by providing them with new educational tools and working methods, as well as by developing their intercultural, social, and communication skills. The partnership sought to strengthen the capacity of organizations, as well as local facilitators, educators, and volunteers, to effectively support the social integration of people with migration backgrounds. Another key objective was to create an innovative integration tool in the form of a script and a theatrical performance, co-created with the participation of migrants and refugees. This initiative was intended to foster intercultural dialogue, break down stereotypes, strengthen participants’ sense of agency, and promote openness and tolerance in local communities. The project also aimed to raise public awareness of the challenges faced by migrants and refugees, and to strengthen international cooperation among partner organizations from Poland, Italy, and Turkey through the exchange of experiences and best practices, as well as the joint development of effective educational and integration solutions.
The “Theatre - connecting people” project was developed in response to the growing need to integrate migrants and refugees into local communities and to support the adults working on their behalf. The project partners observed that in Poland, Italy, and Turkey alike, people with migration backgrounds often face social exclusion, encounter language, cultural, and social barriers, and experience stereotyping and discrimination. At the same time, adults - facilitators, educators, volunteers, and institutional staff - often lack sufficient tools and competencies to effectively support the integration process. The project addressed the need to improve the quality of adult education by developing the intercultural, social, and communication competencies of those working with migrants and refugees. Another significant need was to create an innovative, engaging integration tool based on theater and art that facilitates dialogue, mutual understanding, and the active participation of migrants in social life. The project also addressed the need to strengthen international cooperation and the exchange of best practices among partners.
