Objectives

Our objective was implemented at three levels: 1. Exchange of knowledge and good practices in the use of elements of the therapeutic community method and non-formal education in work with young people at risk of social exclusion, as well as the development of assumptions and solutions that could be implemented in both organisations, with the involvement of specialists in the field of therapeutic communities (PRIORITY: enhancing quality, innovation, and recognition in youth work); 2. Development of youth workers’ competences in working with marginalised young people and learning about the therapeutic community approach through the use of non-formal education methods (TOPIC: development of key competences; quality and innovation in youth work); 3. Engagement of young people at risk of social exclusion in project activities, including their involvement in the planning and organisation of preparatory and study visits, an international youth meeting, and the preparation of video materials (TOPIC: inclusion of marginalised young people).

Background

The implementation of the project resulted from the need to strengthen the quality of educational, therapeutic, and resocialisation interventions addressed to young people at risk of social exclusion. In particular, it focused on young people requiring therapeutic support, experiencing emotional difficulties, and functioning in conditions of increased risk of social marginalisation. The main objective of the project was to integrate elements of the therapeutic community method into the daily work with young people during the period from 1.10.2024 to 31.10.2025. The project was implemented in cooperation between two organisations: the Youth Educational Centre in Trzebież, acting as the applicant organisation, and Integrations- und Bildungszentrum dialog e.V. from Germany as the project partner. The project responded to the real and growing needs of young people with whom both organisations work on a daily basis. In recent years, a clear increase has been observed in the number of young people experiencing mental health crises, adaptation difficulties, and problems resulting from prior contact with psychoactive substances.
