Objectives

The third year (2024) of the YOUTH Accreditation activity plan of Equação, a Fair Trade Cooperative, Crl (Equação), was executed as planned, with the implementation of the Seminar "Local Participatory Approaches: Youth Policies & Dialogue!", from October 21-28, 2024, in Amarante (Portugal). The seminar aimed to share policies, tools, and approaches that support and inspire youth workers, coaches, and youth leaders to encourage young people to participate more actively at the local level and support the development of their communities. As a complementary activity, we decided, exceptionally, to produce a Handbook "Local Participatory Approaches," a product created by Equação together with all the project partners present at the Seminar "Local Participatory Approaches: Youth Policies & Dialogue!" The project aimed to compile, in a single, easily accessible and usable document, 40 best practices for youth participation in the development of their communities (events, initiatives, projects, etc.) from 10 different program countries (Portugal, Turkey, Spain, Romania, France, Italy, Estonia, Greece, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria). The main objective of the project, according to the YOUTH Accreditation activity plan, was: Objective 3. LOCAL PARTICIPATION: Support youth initiatives that aim to transform their way of being and participating in society and, therefore, with more active participation in decision-making processes that affect their community and that can be decisive for their quality of life as producers, consumers, activists, or citizens attentive to decision-making processes and the functioning of democratic life. This participation should enable closer and more sustained cooperation between different actors in society: citizens, organizations, businesses, and the public sector (for example, through the creation of informal youth groups or local action groups and support for structured dialogue initiatives with local authorities). Furthermore, the project also addressed objective 1: SUSTAINABILITY - promoting healthier, more sustainable, and participatory practices and principles, so that Equação can continue to practice what it advocates (we practice what we preach) by implementing actions that engage the local community, especially young people, in issues of personal, social, and environmental sustainability (mental health, responsible production and consumption, reducing the ecological footprint, combating climate change, etc.).
