Objectives

YUPI's objective with the mobility project is heavily focused on exploring the EU Youth Goals, Democratic Participation of Young People, and Green Practices. Therefore, the 40 planned mobility programs were carried out (and surpassed with a total of 51 people involved in exchanges) focusing on these themes and applying sustainability and democratic participation tools. YUPI's mission is to empower young people from Famalicão (especially from less urban areas like Gondifelos and Pedome) and more isolated regions (like Fafe) to exercise active, conscious, responsible, and sustainable citizenship for the improvement of the community's quality of life and the environment. Thus, youth mobility projects in the community are important for promoting the value of solidarity: by interacting with other young people, they acquire new skills and discover other cultures (multiculturalism). By learning more about these mobility projects and their conditions, they can take advantage of these opportunities to rebuild their trajectory, learn about the realities of other countries and their languages, which allows them to develop autonomy and initiative, making them more capable of overcoming obstacles and increasing their involvement in the community. Through mobility programs, we are able to work on the resilience of young people and support them in adapting to new challenges, being tolerant of the ambiguity and uncertainty that is increasingly present in our lives, identifying extremism as a threat to democracy, and living in a more balanced way with technological changes and the serious threats to the future employment of young people that automation will bring. The target audience of our actions has prioritized NEET youth, women, and people with a history of immigration, ensuring extra support for their participation and even their involvement with a progressive increase in responsibility and coordination (as participants who later assume leadership roles). These projects give them the skills to manage and support diversity, contributing to positive interaction with different groups, regardless of physical, sexual or religious characteristics, which ultimately benefits young people with fewer opportunities and increases the success of their inclusion. And it will allow them to acquire tools/skills, through non-formal learning, that will be useful in their professional, educational, personal, civic and social lives. In this way, we intend to contribute to the new European Union strategy 2021-2027 for youth, which involves engaging, connecting and empowering young people. Education remains the most powerful tool for transformation. These educational programs must serve to inform, empower and motivate young people, with follow-up on their dissemination actions, which must be structured, pedagogical and with a multiplier and transformative effect, to promote values, skills, ideals, knowledge and techniques that reproduce active citizenship as a fundamental attitude for social life. Thus, in conceiving this project, our goal was to propose that exchanges serve to empower young people to stimulate their sense of active citizenship, discover new practices of environmental sustainability, and diversify knowledge that could then be shared locally, through the discovery of new ways to connect with others, with themselves, and with Nature. The objective of youth participation in international contexts was also intended, which is demonstrated by the increased participation of these young people in new programs and/or by integration into projects of the European Solidarity Corps. Using internal resources (training in areas of environmental education and group democracy devices, as well as outdoor dynamics in the YUPI team), we encourage partners with a consolidated pedagogical proposal to establish cooperation and develop ideas together that could serve organizations and young people, as well as benefit from the set of resources and contacts we have to enrich the activities.
